Keeping posies perky in this heat..

Wow, it's a challenge!

Here are some tips to keep your cut flowers looking crisp in the warmer weather,

Make sure you get them home as quickly as possible, if they're in a hot car they will wilt very quickly.

Once you get them home, prepare a bucket or sink with warm water (tepid warm, not hot) and a tablespoon of un-perfumed bleach, remove all foliage that will be under the water level, cut about an inch off the bottom of the stem at a 45 Degree angle and get them into the water as quickly as possible.

Allow them a 2 hr drink to recover from their journey before arranging.

If flowers are out of the water for any length of time they will develop and air lock at the bottom of the stem so snipping a couple of centimetres off will clear the air lock and the warm water will help them drink.

Cool water should be used for bulb flowers.

Did you know?

Some flowers such as a droopy gerbera can be revived by trimming the stem and plunging it into hot water for a few minutes before returning it to it's vase.
